NayaPay was founded in 2019 by Danish A. Lakhani, a Harvard Business School alumnus and former CEO of CYBERNET, one of Pakistan’s leading internet service providers. Lakhani’s background in technology and his deep understanding of Pakistan’s digital landscape shaped NayaPay’s vision from the start. The company is headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan, and operates as part of the Lakson Group, one of Pakistan’s most respected diversified business conglomerates.

History of NayaPay

NayaPay received its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from the State Bank of Pakistan in 2021, a significant regulatory milestone that allowed the platform to officially operate as a licensed digital financial services provider. In February 2022, the company raised $13 million in a seed funding round co-led by Graph Ventures, MSA Novo, and Zayn Capital, with additional participation from Maple Leaf Capital and Saison Capital. This funding validated NayaPay’s model and supported its expansion. The platform quickly built a user base among students, freelancers, and young professionals who were drawn to its chat-based interface and free Visa debit card offering.

NayaPay offers a digital wallet accessible through its mobile app, which features a chat-led interface allowing users to send and receive money within conversations.
