The MCB Bank Logo carries the identity of one of Pakistan’s most historically significant financial institutions, a bank whose founding in 1947 coincided with the birth of Pakistan itself. From its origins as Muslim Commercial Bank to its current form as MCB Bank Limited, the institution has served generations of Pakistani businesses, families, and individuals through one of the largest branch networks in the country.
About MCB Bank Logo
MCB Bank Limited was incorporated on July 9, 1947, as Muslim Commercial Bank, under the encouragement of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The bank was founded by Adamjee Haji Dawood, with directors drawn from prominent Muslim commercial and industrial families including the Ispahani, Adamjee, and Dada families. Originally registered under the Indian Companies Act, the bank initially commenced operations in Dhaka before moving its registered office to Karachi in 1956.
History of MCB Bank
Following Pakistan’s independence, MCB established itself as a key pillar of the country’s private banking sector. The bank was nationalized in 1974 under the Banks Nationalization Act during the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. In April 1991, MCB made history as the first Pakistani bank to be privatized, when the National Group led by Nishat Group acquired a 26% stake. The privatization was completed over subsequent years, with the Nishat Group eventually consolidating its majority ownership. In 2005, the bank formally shortened its name from Muslim Commercial Bank Limited to MCB Bank Limited. In 2008, Malaysian bank Maybank acquired an 18.78% strategic stake, strengthening MCB’s international profile. In 2006, MCB became the first Pakistani bank to list its Global Depositary Receipts on the London Stock Exchange.
