About Pakistan Standards Logo

The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) was established through the passage of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority Act, 1996 (Act VI of 1996) by the Parliament of Pakistan. The Authority operates as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of Pakistan. PSQCA formally commenced operations on December 1, 2000, after the necessary administrative and technical structures were put in place.

History of Pakistan Standards

Before PSQCA’s establishment, Pakistan’s standards functions were handled through separate bodies including the Pakistan Standards Institution. The creation of PSQCA under Act VI of 1996 was intended to consolidate standardization, quality control, testing, and metrology functions under a single, integrated authority. The formal Central Testing Laboratory, which had existed previously, was merged into PSQCA and renamed the Quality Control Centre following the promulgation of Act VI of 1996. PSQCA operates as a member of major international standards bodies including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), ensuring Pakistan’s standards remain aligned with global benchmarks.

Products & Services

PSQCA is organized into three integrated departments: the Standards Development Centre (SDC), which develops and updates Pakistan Standards; the Quality Control Centre (QCC), which conducts product testing, certification, and inspection; and the Technical Services Centre (TSC), which provides metrology, calibration, and applied research services. The authority has adopted over 22,000 international standards and developed more than 8,800 Pakistani standards covering a wide range of sectors including food, textiles, electronics, construction materials, chemicals, mechanical and electrical equipment, and consumer goods. PSQCA issues the PS certification mark to products that meet the required standards and monitors both domestic production and imports.
