The Bank of China Logo is one of the most recognized banking symbols in the world, representing an institution with over a century of history and one of the broadest international networks among Chinese banks. As the oldest of China’s four major state-owned commercial banks, the Bank of China has played a central role in China’s economic development and its integration with the global financial system.

About Bank of China Logo

Bank of China (BOC) was formally established on February 5, 1912, following the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China. The founding was approved by President Sun Yat-sen, the father of the Republic, and the bank was reorganized from the Da-Qing Bank, which had originally been established in 1905 as the Bank of the Board of Revenue. Chen Jintao, who was appointed head of financial reform in Sun Yat-sen’s government, is regarded as the founder who reorganized and re-established the institution as Bank of China.

History of Bank of China

From its founding in 1912 until 1928, Bank of China served as China’s central bank. It then transitioned to become the country’s designated international exchange bank and specialized international trade bank. After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, BOC became responsible for managing the country’s foreign exchange operations, a role that positioned it uniquely within the socialist financial system. In 1994, Bank of China was transformed into a wholly state-owned commercial bank. It was incorporated as Bank of China Limited in August 2004, and listed simultaneously on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2006, becoming the first Chinese commercial bank to achieve a dual listing in both markets.
